NoElec SMArt v4 SDR

For my ADSB tracking of planes I needed another cheaper solution instead of blocking my HackRF all the time.

I chose the Nooelec SMArt v4 SDR as a compact, affordable entry into software-defined radio experimentation. This upgraded RTL-SDR dongle offers:

  1. Enhanced Performance: Equipped with the R820T2 tuner and improved filtering, it covers 24 MHz to 1700 MHz (extendable via direct sampling) with reduced noise and better sensitivity compared to older RTL-SDR models.
  2. TCXO Stability: The onboard temperature-compensated crystal oscillator ensures reliable frequency accuracy (critical for decoding narrowband signals like aircraft ADS-B or digital voice).
  3. Plug-and-Play Simplicity: USB-powered, no external power supply needed—perfect for quick setups in the field or on-the-go monitoring of FM radio, weather satellites, marine traffic, or IoT protocols.
  4. Versatile Applications: Ideal for amateur radio experimentation, spectrum analysis, reverse-engineering wireless signals (e.g., garage door openers, sensors), and learning RF fundamentals without breaking the bank.

Why It Stands Out: Compared to pricier SDRs like HackRF One, the SMArt v4 balances cost and capability—making it a no-brainer for hobbyists or professionals needing a lightweight, receive-only tool for everyday signal exploration. Its robust build quality and compatibility with GNU Radio, HDSDR, and other platforms solidify its role as my go-to SDR companion.

My first 3D pen

Bought a 3D pen at Banggood for 15Euro, what can go wrong right ?

Fantastic, all included even some 1.75mm filament and power supply…

pretty good to fix some minor issues or do super fast critical fixing on messed up support for 3D prints

Definitely a thumbs up product.

FeelElec FY6900 60MHz Dual Channel DDS Function Arbitrary Waveform Signal Generator 60MHz

Tired of shaky tiny PCBs for injecting signals for filter design, I looked into banggood offers for function generators, and did find the Feeletch FY6900 up to 60MHz Dual Channel DDS Function Arbitrary Waveform Signal Generator.

I love the lab form factor which fits well to my whole desktop setup of electronic devices and tools.

Fantastic to quickly scan through audio circuits, as well as tuning RC receivers.

Riden RD6006-W Power Supply

I was impressed by the latest chinese hardware I bought, build quality is pretty good, and the features are unmatched with our european products.

So I decided to buy a new lab power supply, and no longer use my old Voltcraft PS 303 Pro.

Further I could not resist to also add the add on WiFi module to have complete AppControl via my iPad to the powersupply.
Of course the screen and keymatrix is already great but you have to move with the flow you know 😀

Western Digital 6TB NAS defect again

Another Western Digital 6TB NAS drive died today.
But “as usual” 😀 within guarantee.
So I just created another replacement RMA ticket, and will swap the drive as soon as the new one arrives.
